How a Mug is born
1 Pottery
Custom Logo Mugs can take up to 6 weeks to complete. Art work is needed in a black and white format. It has to look good in a 2.5” x2.5” square. Once we determine the logo, I send it off to my stamp maker which takes a week to make. Most stamps cost $50-$65.00. This cost is considered a startup cost and invoiced to you. Coffee mugs with logo’s retail at $38.99. Beer steins with logo retail at $60.00. Small bowls with logo retail for $35.00. Other sizes and forms is custom and will be determined. I don't have minimum order. In order to keep costs down I do recommend around 20 or so. Anything less than that would be subject to wait while I fill up the kiln.
Making of a mug is as follows.
Week 1:
Day 1: We nail down the art work. Sometimes the image is simple and we send it to the stamp maker. If not, we could be heading into week 2 or 3 before it goes into a stamp.
Week 2:
Stamp is in the studio.
Day 1: I throw the piece on the wheel. It dries to leather hard over night.
Day 2: I trim the foot of the piece, add the logo and handle. This state is called green ware.
Week 3:
Day 1: After the piece dries I then fire it to 1800 deg f. This firing in the kiln take 12 hours to reach the desired temperature and 12 hours to cool to unload it.
Day 2: I unload the kiln and wash the now Bisque ware.
Day 3: Washed Bisque mugs are now dry and I can apply the glaze.
Day 4: I load the kiln and fire to 2150 deg f. Cone 6. 12 hours up and 12 hours down to unload.
Day 6: I hand pack every mug with bubble wrap. This is a $5.00 MISC charge invoiced to you.
Day 7: I ship them UPS Ground to you. Shipping cost’s are added to the invoice.
